Effective July 1, 2014, all Florida Professional Certificate renewals must include 20 in-service hours in Exceptional Education.These professional development events must specifically address one or more of the following topics areas:
The following options are available to meet the new
20 hour ESE re-certification requirement.
- Instructional strategies for students with disabilities
- Behavior management for students with disabilities
- Assessment for students with disabilities
- Curriculum for students with disabilities
|Online PDA modules offered through Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System (FDLRS).
||Select professional development opportunities offered by the LCS Exceptional Education Department.
|College courses that provide at least one (1) semester hour in teaching students with disabilities.
|Modules worth 20, 30 and 60 in-service hours meet the re-certification requirement. See attached flyer or go to www.fl-pda.org for more information.
Course listings in TNL will note that it meets new re-certification requirement.
The following topic areas are not acceptable for the re-certification requirement:
- Gifted Endorsement
- Legal/Procedural Requirements
- Working with Aides
Gifted Education is not acceptable.
Please note: The FDLRS PDA online modules are the only online programs that have been approved by Lake County Schools and included in our Master In-Service Plan.If you choose to complete other online courses that have not been approved by LCS, the points may not count for the ESE recertification requirement.Additional online options will be reviewed by the district and added as deemed appropriate.
