South Lake High School, located at 15600 Silver Eagle Road, Groveland, will be showing their gratitude to U.S. veterans and active military soldiers by hosting a Veterans Day service on Friday, Nov. 9, at 9 a.m.
The ceremony will begin with opening remarks by Principal Rob McCue. The ceremony will include: the presentations of colors by South Lake High’s Navy JROTC Honor Guard, a piece performed by both South Lake Chorus and Band, and the recognition of those veterans present. The ceremony will conclude with the playing of “Taps” in remembrance of all fallen soldiers who died in the country’s service.

In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”
