Students at Sawgrass Bay Elementary celebrated Literacy Week in a huge way by participating in various activities throughout the week.
The students kicked the week off by assembling a reading chain. For every book read, students attached a reading links to create a school-wide chain. The class that had the most links won books and a class visit by a guest author.
Teachers and students also participated in DEAR, (drop everything and read) as well as hosting their annual Snuggle Up and Read. Professional storyteller and author Ronda Friend displayed her high energy, hysterical, heartwarming presentation while teaching the character trait of forgiveness to her audience.
Later, parents, students and families drank hot chocolate and ate cookies as they viewed the student created books that were on display, as well as listen to guest readers read next to a life-size igloo created by teacher Kelly Livorsi.
