Welcome to Cane Country! It has been an action packed first nine weeks of school. We set a record number of over 1125 for student enrollment. Students have met new friends, joined clubs, and many are participating in our fall sports, band and JROTC. Our students enjoyed a week of homecoming activities led by our class officers and SGA. New to our campus this year is Hurricane READY Time and the launch of Mount Dora High School as a Lake County Digital Discovery School.
I am pleased to announce the following teachers that are new to MDHS and have joined us here in Cane Country. The English/Language Arts Department welcomes Mrs. Rigby and Mrs. Rainear; joining the Social Studies Department is Mrs. Kemmet, Mrs. McMillan and Mr. Watkins; Intensive Reading is Mrs. Romano; our Spanish classes will be taught by Mrs. Santiago and Mrs. Bou; Science greets Mrs. Leese; in Math Mr. Morrison; in Theatre Ms. Laird; and in Art joining us is Mr. Nisbeth. Our new Guidance Counselor is Dr. Clinkscales.
We are excited to share with you that MDHS is among one of the first Lake County High Schools to have Chromebooks for our students. Please visit our website to read about this fantastic program, complete the Student Electronic Device Agreement and pay your Technology Fee on line.
Hurricane READY Time allows our students additional time during the school day to get extra help, work on projects, complete homework or attend meetings with their teachers. This initiative will enable each student at MDHS not only to achieve academically but strive for excellence in everything they do.
Parents I encourage you to take an active role in your student’s education. Lake County has an online program in Skyward that you can monitor your student’s progress and successes throughout the school year. If you are not familiar with this online program, please contact the guidance office and they will be happy to walk you through the set up process. We encourage all of our students to take the opportunity to become involved in the various activities, clubs and sports offered at MDHS.
My sincerest thanks goes to our students, parents, faculty, staff and the community of Mount Dora for the support you continue to give to Mount Dora High School. We look forward to continuing our upward academic trend in Cane Country and having a great year while we do it!
Sincerely, Dr. Boone, Principal
Parents and guardians of students who attend Lake County Schools are encouraged to create a Family Access account. Through the Family Access portal, parents and guardians will have the ability to view their child’s grades, attendance and other data. Click this link for Skyward Family Access, https://www.lake.k12.fl.us/familyaccess , for a tutorial on how to create an account.
Lake County schools will no longer print and mail report cards. Parents are urged to sign up for Family Access to see report cards online when they are published at the end of the school year.
Enrolling in Skyward Family Access not only links parents to their children’s report cards, but it also gives parents the ability to monitor attendance records, assignments and test scores, and to receive important notices from the school or district.
Enrolling is easy:
Download the enrollment form at www.lake.k12.fl.us/FamilyAccess , print it and complete it.
Bring the completed form and ID to the school and sign the form in front of a witness there.
OR…
Have the completed form notarized and turn it in at the school.
Parents who don’t have access to a computer at home can link to Skyward Family Access from a smart phone or other mobile device – a link is available on the Lake County Schools app, which can be downloaded through Google Play or the Apple App Store. They also have the option of using computers for free at public libraries in Lake. Those who still want a paper copy of their child’s report card can come to the school and have one printed and given to them on the spot.
For more information about Skyward Family Access, see the Frequently Asked Questions at www.lake.k12.fl.us/FamilyAccess
