A study of 174,000 students in 32 countries revealed that time spent reading books is the single best predictor of academic achievement. 35 minutes a day is the point at which students achieve the most growth for the least amount of time spent reading.
To encourage this independent reading, students at Fruitland Park Elementary take computerized AR tests on books that they read. These tests must be taken at school, not at home nor at a public library. There are nearly 160,000 tests on books children read. Therefore, AR tests are not restricted to books checked out at school. The books with available tests can be old favorites found on your bookshelf, or newly purchased, checked out at school, or checked out from the public libraries.
