Add Area
Current Lake County Schools may submit an application to add a certification area once a subject area exam has been passed. For more information on certification exams, or to sign up for an exam, please visit: www.fl.nesinc.com
Steps to Add a Subject Area
1. Login to your VERSA account to submit an online application.
2. From the Quick Start Menu application under manage your license, choose 'District Add Subject' from the drop down menu. **Do not add more than one subject per application** (See Note below)
3. Complete the application and click submit at the end of the application.
4. Submit the additional fee to Human Resources. (Note: choose 'Continue as Guest' when prompted.)Application Fee: $75 per subject area
5. Once your subject has been added you will receive an email from the Florida Department of Education with a digital certificate as they do not provide physical copies.
Note: You should not complete this application if you are adding one of the following coverage(s) or endorsement(s). Individuals seeking to add these specific areas should contact the Florida Department of Education directly.

Steps to Apply to Add the ESOL Endorsement
1. Login to your VERSA account to submit an online application.
2. From the Quick Start Menu application drop down, choose the appropriate application type. Watch this video to ensure you submit the correct application.
- If using COLLEGE COURSES or a combination of college courses and in-services to apply for the ESOL Endorsement:
- choose the "Addition of Subject to Educator Professional Certificate" application
- choose the 'ESOL Endorsement' as the subject to add
- submit the $75 fee directly through the application process
- email to Certification@lake.k12.fl.us to request any in-services to be submitted to the Florida Department of Education.
- If using ONLY in-services to apply for the ESOL Endorsement:
- choose the "District Add Endorsement" application
- Do not add more than one subject per application
- submit the $75 fee directly to Lake County Schools. Click the PAY button below to submit the application fee online.

Steps to Apply to Add the Reading Endorsement
IMPORTANT: Add your TEACHING EXPERIENCE on the application. If you do not include your teaching experience, the state will not be able to review for eligibility. The District CANNOT submit experience. Experience at the Elementary level needs to be listed as 'Elementary Ed'. Reading experience at the Middle or High levels need to be listed as 'Reading'.
2. From the Quick Start Menu application drop down, choose the appropriate application type.
- If using a combination of TEACHING EXPERIENCE, COLLEGE COURSES, and/or in-services to apply for the Reading Endorsement:
- choose the application type "Addition of Subject to Educator Professional Certificate".
- choose 'Endorsement/Reading' as the subject to add (NOT K-12/Reading)
- MUST include your TEACHING EXPERIENCE when submitting your application.
- submit the $75 fee directly to the Florida Department of Education through the application process

The FLDOE will evaluate all transcripts on file and teaching experience provided. You will receive a Statement of Eligibility outlining any remaining requirements needed to satisfy components of the Reading Endorsement.
- If you have completed ALL 5 reading competencies or have passed the Reading K-12 Subject Area Exam:
- choose the "District Add Endorsement" application
- Do not add more than one subject per application

Reading Endorsement Crosswalk
Specialization Requirements for the Reading Endorsement --- Academic Class.
(1) A bachelor's or higher degree with certification in an academic, degreed vocational, administrative, or specialty class coverage, and
(2) Fifteen (15) semester hours in reading coursework based upon scientifically based reading research with a focus on both the prevention and remediation of reading difficulties to include the areas specified below:
(a) Six (6) semester hours in understanding reading as a process of student engagement in both fluent decoding of words and construction of meaning; - Competency 1 and 2
(b) Three (3) semester hours in the administration and interpretation of instructional assessments to include screening, diagnosis, and progress monitoring with purposes of prevention, identification, and remediation of reading difficulties; - Competency 3
(c) Three (3) semester hours in understanding how to prescribe, differentiate instruction, and utilize appropriate strategies and materials based upon scientifically based reading research in order to address the prevention, identification, and remediation of reading difficulties in order to increase reading performance; and - Competency 4
(d) Three (3) semester hours in a supervised practicum to obtain practical experience in increasing the reading performance of a student(s) with the prescription and utilization of appropriate strategies and materials based upon scientifically based reading research to address the prevention, identification, and remediation of reading difficulties. - Competency 5
