ATHLETIC COACHING ENDORSEMENT

Lake County Schools 

 

The Florida Department of Education requires 180 hours or nine (9) semester hours for an endorsement in Athletic Coaching.  The requirements can be achieved through the Lake County Schools Learning Resource Center under the direction of the instructor Mr. Russell Wambles, CAA. All courses are offered through a combination of in-class instruction and activities as well as on-line through American Sport Education Program (ASEP). 

The cost for each  course is approximately $50.00 .The Athletic Coaching Endorsement includes the

three areas specified below:

  • Three (3) semester hours or 60 in-service points in the care of athletic injuries.  A required course is Sports First Aid. There will be one class meeting to provide an overview of the course and to make sure all students understand the requirements of the on-line instruction. Deadline dates for completion of assignments will be given. Students will receive feedback from the instructor as assignments are completed and will be tested for mastery at the completion of the course. Each student will also be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR/AED card through the American Heart Association. This is the responsibility of the student and a copy of the card must be presented to Mr. Wambles as a part of course completion (Sport First Aid).
  • Three (3) semester hours or 60 in-service points in coaching theory. Another course is Coaching Principles. There will be one class meeting to provide an overview of the course and to make sure all students understand the requirements of the on-line instruction. Important instruction will occur at this class meeting also. Deadline dates for completion of assignments will be given. Students will receive feedback from the instructor as assignments are completed and will be tested for mastery at the completion of the course.

 

  • Three (3) semester hours or 60 in-service points in the theory and practice of coaching a specific sport.  Numerous online specific sport courses are offered through ASEP. There will be one class meeting to provide an overview of the course and to make sure all students understand the requirements of the on-line instruction. Deadline dates for completion of assignments will be given. Students will receive feedback from the instructor as assignments are completed and will be tested for mastery at the completion of the course. If the sport you are coaching is not taught by ASEP you can either choose another sport or take a 3 hour credit college course through an accredited institution.

Any course other than those listed above must be approved by Mr. Wambles before taking the class.  If you have a college degree the college transcripts may be submitted to Personnel at the district office to review as some college courses may meet the requirements for Athletic Coaching.  In order to be eligible for supplemental pay; coaches must complete the 180 points as required by the DOE as well as show proof of current CPR/AED certification.
