COACHING A SPECIFIC SPORT

This course is one of three (3) required courses for State Of Florida Athletic Coaching Endorsement.

 General Objective: To provide athletic coaches with knowledge in coaching skills and techniques as they apply to a specific sport, legal aspects, and state and local rules and regulations relative to a specific sport. All for the purpose of helping improve coaching effectiveness.

Specific Objectives: Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. 1. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of various coaching techniques relative to a specific sport.
   2. Demonstrate knowledge of FHSAA rules and regulations for a specific sport.
   3. Describe three principles for effective team management.
   4. Demonstrate proficiency in understanding tort liability.
   5. Identify minimum necessary athletic insurance coverage for a specific sport.
   6. Recognize and adhere to appropriate state and local policies and procedures governing athletic participation.
   7. Be aware of legal precedents and actions relative to coaching a specific sport.
   8. Understand managerial skills in use of equipment, facilities, and the deployment of personnel as it relates to a specific sport.
   9. Identify the rules and terminology used in a selected interscholastic sport.
   10. Identify the strategies of individual and team play as well as the skills necessary to participate in an interscholastic sport.
   11. Exhibit knowledge of safety practices necessary to participate in a specified sport.
   12. Identify positive sportsmanship techniques in participating in selected interscholastic sports.

Instructional Activities: This course will be taught through a combination of in-class discussion and activities along with on-line instruction through ASEP.

Evaluation: The instructor will determine a satisfactory completion of the course requirements based on participatory and follow-up activities.
