Assistant Principal Don Dickson
Don Dickson is a proud product of Leesburg area schools. He attended Beverly Shores Elementary, Dabney 5th & 6th East, and was a student at Leesburg Junior High School the year it was renamed and opened as Carver Middle School. After graduating from Leesburg High School in 1991, he went on to attend Stetson University, earning a degree in English and Education.
Wanting to serve his home community, Mr. Dickson returned to Lake County Schools in 1996 as a teacher at Tavares High School, where he served on his school’s literacy team, helped to design professional development and writing programs, and taught English II and English II Honors. While serving at Tavares High, Mr. Dickson was proud to have been a part of the first high school in Lake County to earn the grade of “A” from the Florida Department of Education. In the final 4 years of his 15 in the classroom, he also taught sections of Advanced Placement Language and Composition, with 100 of his students passing the College Board AP test, earning college credit.
After receiving his M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Stetson University, Mr. Dickson went on to become the Instructional Dean and then Assistant Principal at Tavares High. In 2013, he returned to the Leesburg area as the Assistant Principal at Carver Middle, the same school he attended 30 years ago. To Mr. Dickson, serving his community is a privilege, and Carver is home.
