• What is Talent Search  (TS)?

Talent Search (TS) is a pre-college program funded by a federal grant from the US Department of Education.  The TS program is designed to assist middle school and high school students, as well as high school dropouts, overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.  There are over 461 TS programs throughout the United States and 15 in the state of Florida.

Who can benefit from the Talent Search program at LSSC?

The program serves 612 students enrolled in 14 selected public middle schools and high schools in Lake and Sumter Counties. Students and school dropouts may be eligible to receive services if their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) did not attain a bachelor's degree and if they meet the income eligibility requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of Education. All participants are required to submit an application, including evidence of yearly family income, family composition (number of members in the family), and the level of education of their parent(s) or guardian(s).

Most of the TS participants are among the first in their immediate families to have a better chance at pursuing and achieving a college education. Beginning at the sixth grade, participants receive services designed to advice, motivate, and educate; thus, laying out a plan for a more constructive future. All Talent Search activities are FREE to each participant.
