    Homework:

    Please practice the letters, sounds, and sight words that are in your child's folder. Please practice counting 0-100, reading, writing, and counting objects 0-10, as well as fine motor skills. The best way to practice fine motor skills is to have your child practice cutting straight lines, such as coupons.

    Hi! My name is Kayli Tasker. I was born and raised in Leesburg, FL. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 2006. This is my 13th year of teaching. I am certified in Elementary Education, Middle School Integrated Curriculum (5-9), ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages), and ESE (Exceptional Student Education). I also have my Reading Endorsement. I have taught different grade levels before, but I LOVE teaching Kindergarten!!! I am happily married and have a beautiful 9 year-old daughter and an adorable 6 year-old son. I am very excited to be your child's first teacher in his/her educational journey. I look forward to creating a parent/teacher relationship that will strengthen your child's success in Kindergarten
     

    Your child will learn through center activities along with some whole-group and small-group instruction. I believe in the use of technology in my classroom to help enhance the lessons I teach. Your child will be interacting with an interactive white board and computers on a daily basis. When your child is absent, it is hard to send home "make-up work" because so much of our learning is done through hands-on work.

    Breakfast
    Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 8:00am-8:25am. Because of a grant that Lake County Schools received, beakfast and lunch are FREE for all students attending Lake County Schools. If you would like your child to purchase milk, if bringing lunch from home, or a small water bottle during lunch, you can send the money for that. If you would like to put the money in your child's account online, you can visit www.Myschoolbucks.com. I can give you your child's number that you will need. Just send me a note letting me know that you need it. If you are sending cash or check, please put in an envelope or baggie, and label it with your child's name and a description of what it is for.
     
    Lunch
    We eat lunch every day, except Wednesdays, from 11:14-11:44. On Wednesdays, we eat lunch from 10:54-11:24. If you want to eat lunch with your child, you will need to come to the office, and your child will come up to the office to meet you so you can eat with him/her in the front eating area. Please see note under the "Breakfast" section about lunch money.

    What we are learning?
     
    We build upon all of the skills that we work on. For instance, in rerading, students will be tested on a set of sight words for the first nine weeks. For the second nine weeks, they will be tested on the same words, and will have more words added to their report card. Please help your child by practicing at home the skills we work on at school. :)
     
    Math: We are working on identifying, writing, and counting numbers 0-10. We build the numbers in different ways. We will also practice calendar skills, shapes, and colors. 
     
     
    Reading: We are always working with letters and sounds, c-v-c (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, and reading. Please practice the sight words, rhyming, and letters and sounds with your child daily. :) Practice makes perfect! :)
     
    Writing: We write in our journals daily, and are focusing on sounding words out, using enviromental print, and illustrating our writing. We are also focusing on making a good sentence, including a capital letter, spaces between the words, and punctuation at the end. The writing journals will be sent home at the end of the year, and you will be amazed at their writing growth throughout the year!
     
     
    Handwriting: We work on handwriting daily to help students become more comfortable with writing the letters and number correctly. When students write letters and numbers backwards, it is usually developmental, so do not be concerned with that. Please help your child practice his/her handwriting at home. This needs to be done with pencil, not with electronics, to help with fine motor skills and hand strength. :)

    Specials: PLEASE make sure that your child is wearing PE-approopriate tennis shoes on PE days. Please be aware that we go to recess every day, so PE shoes each day would be a good idea. The specials for each day is on our daily calendar in your child's daily folder.

    Behavior Interventions

    In our class, we use a color system for behavior. The system is like a ladder. Each student will start on green, and can work his/her way up or down, according to behavior. I DO let students earn their card back, if their behavior improves after moving their clip. If your child comes home on a color under green, it is because he/she made the poor choice, and then was not able to earn it back with making better choices. We use the following colors:

    1. Purple— Wonderful day! Special color for when students do something great! Students will earn a special treat when on purple.
    2. Green— Ready to learn! Good day! Your child should be expected to be on green daily. When on green, students will earn a daily treat.
    3. Yellow— Slow down! Poor choice are being made. No daily treat and possible “cool down” time.
    4. Orange— Poor choices have continued. No daily treat and “cool down” time will be required.
    5. Red— Stop! Poor choices have continued. No daily treat, “cool down” time will be required, and loss of privilege. If the behaviors continue, student may be sent to the office.

    Each day that your child stays on green, he/she will receive a sticker on his/her sticker chart.
    One row on the chart (5 stickers) =A treat out of the candy box

    IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
     
    * Please remember to send a snack for your child daily!!   
    * Please put the snack in your child's backpack. If your child brings his/her lunch from home, it is better to put the snack in the backpack, so that they don't eat their snack at lunch. 
    * Please check your child's folder daily. Important information goes home frequently.

    Please initial each day on the behavior calendar stating that you looked through your child's folder.
    *
    Please make sure to place any notes/money in your child's folder. Please label any money with what it is for.
    * If you want to volunteer, you MUST fill out a volunteer form on the county website. After you have filled it out, email Serita Morgan at MorganS@lake.k12.fl.us to let her know that you filled it out.
