     Welcome aboard Ms. O'Rourke's

    3rd Grade Class

I am so excited to have your child in my class this year! I want to take some time to introduce myself as well as explain how I run my classroom!

My name is Kylie O’Rourke. I grew up in Cape May New Jersey and attended Rowan University. After college, I moved to Florida to join the rest of my family (they moved while I was in college). I have lived and taught in Florida for four years now, and I love it! Teaching gives me the opportunity to return to my hometown every summer where my family still has a summer home. Having grown up in a beach town, I love all things nautical (you may have noticed from my classroom theme).

I am excited to be starting my fifth year of teaching. My first two years I taught kindergarten and the last two years I taught second. All four years have been here at Treadway! I love teaching here and believe all students have the ability to grow academically from the help of me but also from your help at home. This brings me to my next points.

    Parent/Teacher Relationship

I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, progress reports, report cards, and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can call me at school (352-742-2291 ex 7971), send me a note, or e-mail me at orourkek@lake.k12.fl.us

    School Attendance

Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. I can’t emphasize this point enough!  Most second grade learning activities are center based and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is next to impossible to make up work at home. You must send a note to school with your child if he or she has been absent. Please call the office if your child is absent for more than one day.

    Nightly Binders

All important notes and homework will be in your child’s binder. PLEASE take out any finished work and RETURN this binder and folder to school each day. Please initial/sign the agenda each night. Students must bring their backpack and their binder/folder to school everyday.

    Change in Transportation

If there is a change in the way your child will be going home (different bus, or if they will be a car rider) PLEASE send a note in and let me knowI can not just take the child's word that he or she is supposed to go home a different way.  You may also call the front office and they will let me know.
