All UMS scholars are challenged to read this summer! Our goal is to decrease what is known as “summer slide” in reading, thereby increasing your scholar’s success for the 2017-18 school year. We will celebrate all of the scholars summer reading achievements when we return to school in the Fall!
- Attached is the UMS Reading Log (2 sided) – if another log is needed, it is available on the UMS website.
Scholars can also read eBooks online via LCS’s Destiny portal:
(NOTE! Please contact Mrs. Seabrook when you want to get started – I have to set you up the first time only!)
Scroll down, on lower right under Portals, click Destiny, then Umatilla Middle School, then the
Log In tab (top right) – BOTH the Username AND Password is the scholar’s LCS Student ID #.
Click Catalog tab, then Destiny Quest (on the left). Click Follett Shelf (tab at the top). You will now be in a new tab, Destiny Discover. There are several options, find a subject or book you would like to read, click on it and Happy Reading J
Scholars may also visit the Umatilla Public Library, the Paisley Public Library or the Astor Public Library
Most of the scholars have already signed up for a public library card. If not, they can do this when they visit any of the public libraries the first time.
These libraries will be offering a summer reading program. Their logs will be honored by UMS –Mrs. Seabrook will need a copy of it when school begins August 9th.
When the scholar visits the Public Library the first time, they must have a parent go with them to sign for the card because they are under the age of 18.
Online access to eBooks is also available once the scholar has an official public library card.
