    August 17, 2018 update

    Dear Students and Parents,

I am happy to be returning for my ninth year at Windy Hill Middle School and third year teaching 6th graders in Portable W. This  will be my 20th year teaching. My entire adult life has been centered on serving the public, from waiting tables before and during college, working in medical settings, and now educating others. I graduated with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Ed. from Troy University in Alabama with honors in 1999. I am certified to teach grades K-9 with my ESOL endorsement. I continuously take online classes and attend site trainings to enhance my knowledge and skills. Teaching and helping others have always been a passion of mine. Originally, I am from Puerto Rico, but I do not speak Spanish that well anymore. I am a wife and a mother of three children. I love to read, write, watch movies, sing, go to the beach, and spend time with my family when I am not teaching.
Please feel free to contact me anytime at woodbinem@lake.k12.fl.us or 352-394-2123 ext. 4582. My planning period is first, and you can reach me before and after school hours until around 5:00PM daily. If I am with a class, I will need to return your call.
Striving for excellence and preparing my students for college, a career, and a successful future are my goals as a teacher, but I also strive to make the learning environment and class time enjoyable as much as possible. Giving students a voice in what happens in our classroom, an ability to make choices, encouraging students to read independently, learning to work in a group productively, presenting ideas and information orally and in paper, and facilitating writing for various purposes are very important to me. I hope my students will be well rounded students, eager to work with a good attitude, willing to take chances, accept failure, and learn from mistakes. Stepping out of our comfort zones is the best way to grow as a student and human being.
My syllabus will be updated and passed out in class to go over and sent home for parents and students to sign on Aug. 20th.  Parents please sign the agenda in the Saturday section each week and check for important notes. Do not forget to sign up for the Remind App. I send emails weekly or bi-weekly through the emails entered on Skyward family access. We will go over Schoology at our Curriculum Night. Welcome to my class and to what I hope will be an outstanding year.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Michelle Woodbine
