Celebratory Best Practice
In order to create a positive attitude in the classroom, I give feedback to students during the class and when passing back papers. This feedback can be positive for doing well on an assignment or when the student is doing better. If neither situation is relevant, I try to provide feedback on ways they can do better the next time.
Instructional Best Practice
It is important for students to know and understand the expectations in order to be successful. Students are provided an agenda for each class that lets them know exactly what they need to learn and the activities that will occur in order to reach that goal. The process of chunking is used to break information into smaller pieces and then we build on that knowledge. Finally, they are challenged to look at the bigger picture in terms of how concepts and ideas, from current and previous topics, are interrelated and how changes in one affect the other.
