Celebratory Best Practice
Creating the ideal classroom situation is something that is extremely important to me. I don’t think any class is perfect, but I think that as long as you have a sincere desire to teach, any classroom can be the ideal classroom. I work hard to make my classroom a place where students love to come and learn. I create an environment where kids feel free to share because I facilitate the learning, which makes them more of an active participant in their learning. We celebrate individuals and each other when we achieve our class and school goals, as well as personal goals. We work together to develop relationships and this helps us work together more effectively within the classroom.
Instructional Best Practice
Detail! Detail! Detail! Make sure that students understand what is expected of them and be specific about your assignment goals. I give my students very detailed instructions for assignments, projects, classroom rules and expectations. The students appreciate this because they know exactly what I'm looking for. This makes it easier for them to achieve success.
"There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better for worse as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till."
