    Teacher Biography
Mrs. Pautienus is a graduate of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA.  There she obtained a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science with a concentration in Marine Studies and a minor in Chemistry.  After college Mrs. Pautienus worked for NASA Langely Research Center.  Upon moving to Florida she began her teaching career as a middle school science teacher.  This is her 3rd year as the AVID Teacher at Lake Minneola, in which the school has gone from an AVID Certified Site, to a Highly Certified Site for the 2013-14 school year!  She is currently working on her Masters Degree in Reading Education from Grand Canyon University.
    Celebratory Best Practice

In AVID, we are a family and we are all about celebrating our accomplishments!  Students are allowed to share anything they have done well with the class as well as posting it on the “Good News” wall in the room.  This can be anything from a good test grade, to a college acceptance letter. Just like a family, we are there to support each other every step of the way! No one is left to walk the road alone, we help carry each other’s burdens and celebrate in each other’s successes.

    Instructional Best Practice

Being an AVID Family, students have to be comfortable with taking personal and academic risks in my classroom.  That comfort level comes from building the relationships with myself and their peers.  Through lots of team building, and quality time together we become that supportive and nurturing family.  My instructional best practice is to facilitate the construction of that family and to be the “mom”.  I strive to be the type of Mom I would want for my own children.  In my classroom, I am real with my students, being tough when needed, and loving them always.
