Mr. Mason

Hello and welcome to Mr. Mason's About Me Page!
Depending if your student attends 7th Grade Civics, or 8th Grade US History, they will have to come ready to learn!
From the Age of Exploration, to Citizenship and Naturalization. The Colonies, to the Supreme Court. The Bill of Rights to the Battle of Gettysburg. Whichever class, be ready.
After attending the University of Connecticut, I joined the US Navy and spent four years in San Diego, CA. After finishing my obligated service,  I decided I wasn't finished yet serving my country, so I joined the US Army (Reserve) in the ROTC program and served at the 408th Combat Support Hospital in West Hartford, CT. Including my time in service,my family has served over 100 years in this country's military. I am a very proud veteran.
In 1998 I moved down to Florida and have been here ever since, leaving the business world in 2011 to become a teacher in the Lake County School system. A few years later  I decided to further my own education and earned my Masters Degree in Education from Grand Canyon University in 2014. My wife also teaches in Lake County, at the Imagine School at South Lake. She and I along with our four children have called Clermont home for 14 years.
For four years I served as soccer coach here at OPMS. Coaching our athletes was extremely gratifying. I watched my teams mature into young men and women that earned the respect from the other Northern Lake County teams. After two years as Athletic Director, a position in which I was very proud to serve the school and it's athletes, I have decided to once again roam the sidelines as OPMS Soccer Coach.
My two passions, outside of my family, are teaching and soccer. It's time. So #Letsgo
Welcome again, and let's have a great year.
John Mason
