After graduating from Virginia Tech in 2010, I spent four months thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, which is a hiking path from Georgia to Maine. Since beginning my career in education I have taught in both middle and high schools in both the rural and urban settings. I have taught at one time or another nearly every math course from Algebra 1 to Calculus. I am very proud to be a part of Lake Minneola High School, THE best high school in Lake County. Go Hawks!!
    Instructional Best Practice:
A strategy which I use regularly in the classroom is an alternation between "I do" and "You do" learning. I will work an example problem in the math topic we are learning, and immediately provide students with an opportunity to work a very similar problem on their own. My goal is to put the math into the hands of the learners as soon as possible. Watching someone solve a math problem is one thing; being able to solve it yourself is another. I believe that learning by doing is the most powerful way to imprint knowledge, and this is my goal in using this strategy.
    Celebratory Best Practice:
I greet my students at the door each day with a handshake and a smile because I believe that it sets the tone for a positive and respectful learning environment.
    Inspirational Quotes:

“Making the simple seem complicated is commonplace; making the complicated seem simple, awesomely simple -- that’s creativity.”
    ~ Charles Mingus

“Whether you believe you can, or you believe you can’t -- you’re right.”
    ~ Henry Ford
