    Celebratory Best Practice

My celebratory best practice is having an impact on changing a students’ view about math.  Every year, I encounter students that have a major dislike for math because of past experiences in the math classroom and/or lack of confidence in the subject area.  It may take a little while to break down the wall that they carry in with them at the beginning of the year, but there is no greater joy than watching that wall come down as they gain confidence in the subject area and in me as their teacher.
    Instructional Best Practice

My instructional best practice involves breaking a concept down into digestible bites so that students have the best opportunity to build confidence in their math skills.  My classroom atmosphere encourages students to know that making mistakes is okay.  True learning occurs when we learn from our mistakes.  If we don’t take the risk of being incorrect then we won’t know what needs to be corrected or fixed to get it right.
