    Teacher Profile

I am excited to be starting my 13th year of teaching and my fourth year as a Hawk. History has always been my favorite subject in school. I enjoy listening to the stories of people and sharing them so others can learn.   I like to travel and have traveled extensively throughout the United States and some internationally. I live in France for a year during graduate school.  In addition, I have many hobbies to keep me busy including writing,  gardening and sewing. I have two daughters 6 1/2 and 10 and one dog. We are a family of teachers as my husband also teaches.
    Celebratory Best Practice

I learn my students. Throughout the course of the year, I try to learn as much as I can about my each one through interest surveys, interviews and conversations. I think it is important to learn and understand their likes and dislikes so I can incorporate their interests in the class.

    Instructional Best Practice

My favorite part about teaching history is telling the stories of how people lived in the past. While I can’t bring historical figures in as guest speakers, I use their documents, photos, and letters to help the student understand history.  It is like looking beyond a textbook and notes and into the secret lives of these historical figures.
