Treadway Elementary School

    Welcome To Mrs. Scheckel's
    2nd grade Class!

I am excited to be your child’s second grade teacher. I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Melissa Scheckel. This is my eighth year teaching. I graduated from The University of Central Florida's College of Education, majoring in Elementary Education. I am certified in ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) and Reading. I am happily married, and have an twelve-year-old daughter, and a six-year-old son. My favorites things to do when I'm not teaching is to spend time with my family, go to Disney World, shop at Target, scrapbook, and read.  I am looking forward to working with your child this year and helping him/her to achieve his/her full potential.

    Parent/Teacher Relationship

I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, progress reports, report cards, and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can call me at school (352-742-2291 ext. 7973), send me a note, e-mail me at ScheckelM@lake.k12.fl.us, or text me through the remind app. If you do not have the remind app, please send the message           to 81010.

    Parent Participation

If you would like to volunteer, and/or go to our field trip with the class, you will need to fill out a volunteer form. Volunteer forms are found online at the Lake County Schools website: www. Lake.k12.fl.us.

    School Attendance

Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. I can’t emphasize this point enough! You must send a note to school with your child if he or she has been absent. Please call the office if your child is absent for more than one day.

    Change in Transportation

If there is a change in the way your child will be going home (different bus, or if they will be a car rider) PLEASE send a note in and let me know. I cannot just take the child's word that he or she is supposed to go home a different way. If you are going to have another person pick your child up from school, make sure you send a note to me, and that the person is on your child's pick-up list in the office. The person must be prepared to show proper identification before the school will release your child.

    Binders and Agendas

I will send home a binder nightly. PLEASE check for important information and RETURN this binder to school each day. I will not mark your child’s daily behavior in their agenda. You will receive a note only if your child’s behavior is not meeting classroom expectations. Please initial your child’s agenda each night. Students must bring their backpack and their binders/agenda to school every day.
