Migrant

 Title I, Part C, Migrant Education Program (MEP)

The goal of the Migrant Education Program-MEP is to ensure that all migrant students graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a GED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.  The program is funded by the Federal Government and is offered in all 50 states and U.S. territories.

Eligibility for the Migrant Education Program-MEP:

A migrant child means a child who:

•     Is not older than 21 years of age, AND

•     Is entitled to public education, or not yet at grade level for public education, AND

•     Made a qualifying move in the past 36 months, AND

•     Is a migrant agricultural worker or moved with a migrant agricultural worker

A migrant agricultural worker means someone who:

•     Made a qualifying move in the past 36 months, and

•     Engaged in agriculture work soon after the move

A qualifying move (all MUST apply):

•     Must be Due to Economic Necessity, AND

•     Must be from one residence to another, AND

•     Must be from one school district to another, AND

•     Must have occurred in the past 36 months
