As many Floridians are aware, our state has been in a period of transition and the Florida Department of Education has made important decisions to improve our education system and raise the bar for our schools, educators and students. Please click this headline for more information regarding these assessments and to access flyers and links to additional resources and a comprehensive information sheet, the "Lake County Schools Statewide Assessment Information" document.
As we move forward in the school year, we invite you to join in then Just Take 20 literacy campaign. The Florida Department of Education created the Just Take 20 campaign to provide K-12 Florida families with practical, easy-to-implement reading activities that establish literacy as a lifelong value. Just Take 20 encourages families to seize everyday teachable moments by using 20 minutes a day to integrate reading into their busy lives. www.JustTake20.org. So just take 20 and have a great year reading together!

Welcome to Cane Country! Whether you are a new student to Mount Dora High School (MDHS) or a returning student, we look forward to you joining our Hurricane Family. I hope that you had a great summer and the opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends. As we begin the school year, I would like to share some important news and changes you will see.
Excitement is brewing here at Mount Dora High School as we begin the 2018-19 school year! We are proud to continue our partnership with Lake Sumter State College (LSSC) that will allow us to offer college classes right on our campus with our very own teachers that have been selected as the Adjuncts. Ms. Kimberly Walker-Updike, Mr. Kyle Bracewell and Dr. Catherine Slack are returning as Assistant Principals. Officer Smith of the Mount Dora Police Department has been reappointed as our School Resource Officer again this year. As you see new faces, whether they be students, faculty or staff, please welcome and show them our Hurricane Pride.
Canes start this year with determination to do your best! We all look forward to working with our students and their parents to see that each student is provided the opportunity to be successful at MDHS. We encourage you to become involved in the various activities, clubs and sports offered at MDHS. Parents, please take an active role in your student’s education. Lake County has an online program in Skyward that you can monitor your student’s progress and success throughout the school year. If you are not familiar with this online program, please contact the guidance office and they will be happy to walk you through the set up process.
As Principal of Mount Dora High School, my sincerest thanks goes to our students, parents, faculty, staff and the community of Mount Dora for the continued support I receive from each of you. The administrators, faculty and staff have worked hard over the summer getting ready for the 2018-2019 school year. We look forward to your return to Cane Country and having a great year!
Parents and guardians of students who attend Lake County Schools are encouraged to create a Family Access account. Through the Family Access portal, parents and guardians will have the ability to view their child’s grades, attendance and other data. Click this link for Skyward Family Access, https://www.lake.k12.fl.us/familyaccess , for a tutorial on how to create an account.
Lake County schools will no longer print and mail report cards. Parents are urged to sign up for Family Access to see report cards online when they are published at the end of the school year.
Enrolling in Skyward Family Access not only links parents to their children’s report cards, but it also gives parents the ability to monitor attendance records, assignments and test scores, and to receive important notices from the school or district.
Enrolling is easy:
Download the enrollment form at www.lake.k12.fl.us/FamilyAccess , print it and complete it.
Bring the completed form and ID to the school and sign the form in front of a witness there.
Have the completed form notarized and turn it in at the school.
Parents who don’t have access to a computer at home can link to Skyward Family Access from a smart phone or other mobile device – a link is available on the Lake County Schools app, which can be downloaded through Google Play or the Apple App Store. They also have the option of using computers for free at public libraries in Lake. Those who still want a paper copy of their child’s report card can come to the school and have one printed and given to them on the spot.
For more information about Skyward Family Access, see the Frequently Asked Questions at www.lake.k12.fl.us/FamilyAccess
