District works with community on suicide prevention

Lake County Schools is dedicated to working with parents, community agencies, and state agencies to prevent youth suicide, the second leading cause of death for school-age students in Florida. The suicide of a young person is largely the result of untreated or undertreated mental illness, and we as a district are continuing to develop more comprehensive plans for suicide awareness, prevention, and intervention.

Here are a few risk factors and warning signs.

Those in crisis can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741.

Parents and students can also call the district’s Student Services Department for assistance, support and resources. Contact Student Services at 352-742-6920.
