The 2018-19 school year will begin on Aug. 13 for Lake County Schools and will include a five-day Thanksgiving break for students and nearly two weeks off for winter break.
The new calendar was recently approved by the School Board at their last meeting after employees and the community had an opportunity to choose between two options. Links to the survey were posted on the district web site and on its Facebook and Twitter pages. A notice was sent home to parents districtwide via the Peachjar web application.
The options were similar. Both had the first day of school on Aug. 13, 2018, with the last day of classes on May 24, 2019. But Option 1 offered a shorter Thanksgiving break and a longer winter break, while Option 2 offered a longer Thanksgiving break and a slightly shorter winter break.
Employees and the public chose Option 2. Among employees, 72 percent of votes went to Option 2. Among the public, 64 percent of votes went to Option 2.
