District marks National School Choice Week with info sessions on Open Enrollment

TAVARES – Held every January since 2011, National School Choice Week shines a spotlight on effective education options for children. For Lake County Schools, that spotlight will shine on public school options across the district that are available to parents through Educational Choice Open Enrollment.

Educational Choice gives parents the flexibility to send their children to any traditional public school, regardless of where in Florida they live, as long as the school has capacity and parents can provide transportation. In Lake, Open Enrollment for Educational Choice begins Feb. 1 and continues through April 30 for Lake County residents. A second Open Enrollment window will be June 1 through June 30 for in- and out-of-county residents.

Three information sessions are scheduled this week to help families learn more about the Educational Choice transfer application process:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Tavares High School
  • Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Mount Dora High School
  • Thursday, Jan. 25, at East Ridge High School.

All three sessions begin at 6 p.m.
