Open letter from superintendent to parents, community
Lake County Schools Parents and Community Members:
I understand that some of you may be under the impression that I have sought to avoid receiving a performance evaluation this year. Let me assure you that is not the case. My annual evaluation is scheduled for Oct. 26 and I expect it to be carried out this year as it is every year.
The confusion may have occurred because at an Aug. 17 board meeting I announced that I would forgo a bonus based on student performance so the money can be used in the classrooms instead. The metrics for that bonus will be determined at a later date, partly because much of the student performance data has not yet been released from the state. The structure will be put in place for the 2016-17 school year.
My decision to pass up an opportunity for that bonus has no impact on my standard annual evaluation.
Every employee in our district has an annual performance evaluation. It gives employees and their supervisors an opportunity to honestly discuss job performance, set goals for professional development, establish objectives for contributing to our mission and celebrate accomplishments. I would not ask that of our employees while seeking to avoid it for myself.
