Astatula Elementary surpasses Socktober goal

.

Students at Astatula Elementary School collected 1,026 pairs of socks last month for people in need during the school’s annual Socktober drive!

They kicked off the event with a surprise corn dog day in partnership with the Sonic Drive-In restaurant in Eustis. The idea came from the Kid President video, “The 20 Things We Should Say More Often.” Number 18 is, “Here’s a surprise corn dog I bought you because you’re my friend.”

Last year, students collected more than 600 pairs of socks in a project inspired by Kid President’s “Socktober” videos. This year, they set a goal of 1,000 pairs and surpassed it!

Half the pairs went to the school district’s Families in Transition program and the other half went to New Beginnings in Clermont.

Nice going, Astatula Elementary!
