Eustis Service League to donate $2,000 for Eustis Heights Elementary writing curriculum

The Eustis Service League will present a check for $2,000 to Eustis Heights Elementary School on Friday, Nov. 20, to help pay for a writing curriculum for fourth- and fifth-grade students.

A community challenge soon will follow to raise an additional $1,000 to purchase the curriculum for third-grade students.

The league was started in 1957 by a small group of women who wanted to promote philanthropic, educational and social causes in the community. Initially, their contributions included small donations to organized charities and gifts of service, food and money for families in need. In more recent years, the league has offered grants of up to $200 for individual teachers in Eustis schools. They also award scholarships each year to Eustis High School graduates so they may attend Lake-Sumter State College or Lake Technical College.
