Former NBA player visits Astatula Elementary

.   .

Pat Burke, former NBA player and owner of HOOPS Basketball Training Facility, spoke with fourth and fifth grade students at Astatula Elementary recently about hard work, believing in yourself and the importance of teamwork. His visit was inspired by one of Burke’s HOOPS Life players. Jordan, a fifth-grader, interviewed Burke for a school-wide STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) poster project entitled, “How does STEAM relate to your future career?” Here are Burke’s answers:

  • Science: basketball, air pressure, shoes, surface friction
  • Technology: video highlights, scoreboard, shooting machine
  • Engineering: arena’s stadium seating capacity and safety
  • Arts: human form, signature moves, dunks
  • Math: statistics, regulations, measurements, height of the goal, length of the court, free-throw line

Astatula Elementary sends a huge “Thank You” to Pat Burke for bringing a real-world learning experience to life for our students.
