Cypress Ridge Elementary students’ project sends thank-you package to military in Iraq
The first graders at Cypress Ridge Elementary recently completed a Caring and Sharing project to say thank you to the men and women in our armed forces. Students collected more than 100 pounds of toiletries, candy, playing cards and pens which were shipped to the 82nd Airborne Division in Baghdad, Iraq. Lt. Colonel Jeff Munn, a friend of technology teacher Kristin Willis, distributed the items along with posters, cards, and letters from the students to the soldiers in his unit.
Becky Parks, grade chair for the Wonderful Wednesday team said, “We try to teach our students to care about the world by having them participate in different projects throughout the year. Whether they are cleaning up at Waterfront Park, collecting food for a neighborhood food bank, making gift bags for a nursing home, or donating change for chickens for Heifer International, they are getting real world experience to learn how one small thing can make a big difference.”
