South Lake High senior selected as Leaders for Life Fellowship semi-finalist
Out of 86 applications received across the state of Florida, Michelle (pictured with South Lake Principal Rob McCue) was selected as one of 14 semi-finalists. The Leaders for Life Fellowship is sponsored by the Asofsky Family Foundation and is available to Take Stock students in their senior year of high school. In January 2016, six of the 14 students will be selected as finalists and will be recognized at a Leadership Summit in Tallahassee.
The Leaders for Life Fellowship benefits can include a new laptop computer, leadership training and professional development. Leaders for Life Fellows who choose to attend 4-year public universities in the State of Florida will also receive funding up to $10,000 per year. Exact benefits will be based on each recipient’s individual needs as assessed by their university and Leaders for Life. The Leaders for Life Fellowship is designed to meet unmet needs, or those expenses not covered by their Take Stock scholarship, Pell Grants, Bright Futures, university awards or other private scholarships.
Take Stock in Children, a program of the Educational Foundation of Lake County, identifies financially at-risk students in the eighth grade, provides them with a mentor and an advocate and then rewards them at high school graduation with a college tuition scholarship.
Local money raised for scholarships is matched 100 percent and purchased through the Florida Pre-Paid Foundation.
