South Lake High senior selected as Leaders for Life Fellowship semi-finalist
TAVARES – South Lake High School senior,
Michelle Singh, has been selected as a
Leaders for Life Fellowship semi-finalist, Take Stock in Children of Lake and
Sumter Counties recently announced.
Out of 86 applications received across the state of
Florida, Michelle (pictured with South Lake Principal Rob McCue) was
selected as one of 14 semi-finalists. The Leaders for Life Fellowship is
sponsored by the Asofsky Family Foundation and is available to Take Stock
students in their senior year of high school. In January 2016, six of the 14
students will be selected as finalists and will be recognized at a Leadership
Summit in Tallahassee.
The Leaders for Life Fellowship
benefits can include a new laptop computer, leadership training and
professional development. Leaders for Life Fellows who choose to attend 4-year
public universities in the State of Florida will also receive funding up to
$10,000 per year. Exact benefits will be based on each recipient’s individual
needs as assessed by their university and Leaders for Life. The Leaders for
Life Fellowship is designed to meet unmet needs, or those expenses not covered
by their Take Stock scholarship, Pell Grants, Bright Futures, university awards
or other private scholarships.
Take Stock in Children, a program of the Educational
Foundation of Lake County, identifies financially at-risk students in the
eighth grade, provides them with a mentor and an advocate and then rewards them
at high school graduation with a college tuition scholarship.
Local money raised for scholarships is matched 100 percent
and purchased through the Florida Pre-Paid Foundation.
