Student-designed logo promotes weekend's Fine Arts Festival

TAVARES – Many visitors to the Lake County Schools Fine Arts Festival this Saturday will have already seen one example of the prize-winning artwork. The logo used to promote the festival was designed by Jacob Oh, a senior at Mount Dora High School. He competed with several other student artists in a contest where his design received the most votes.

The logo, in shades of green and red, was inspired by Oh’s memories of artwork from other local art festival he has attended. “Art and music programs inspire students to do well in all of their classes,’’ he said, explaining why he thinks such programs are important in schools. “They give students the opportunity to be involved in programs where they can express themselves in a positive way, learn talents and find friends in school that share the same interests.”

Oh’s design is featured on the official festival website, , and on event T-shirts, signage and the printed program.

A logo designed by Gabrielle Hartley of East Ridge Middle School received the second highest number of votes. She used zentangles, a focus in her art class, for her design. Her favorite subjects in art are clay and painting. “Gabriella is always coming up with really creative ideas for her projects,’’ said Emily VanWey-Schell, Gabriella’s art teacher. “She is a great asset to our ERMS art program. I am very proud of her!”

The festival is Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wooton Park in Tavares.

It will feature live student performances and a display of original student artwork. The entire community is invited to attend this free holiday themed event, where visitors can meet our talented students, enjoy great music and skits, participate in fun activities presented by the Early Learning Coalition of Lake County and the Lake County Library System, and celebrate the winners of the art contest, who will be announced at the end.

Sponsors for this event, along with the Early Learning Coalition and the Lake County Library System, include Mathias Foodservice Equipment Company; Lake Eustis Museum of Art; 448 Community Club, Inc.; City of Tavares, and Stephanie Walter Promotions, Inc.
