Umatilla High to unveil mural wall created by students
Umatilla High School will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on Jan. 29 to dedicate a mural wall created by three student artists.
In support of the UHS mission statement, “Inspiring a World yet Imagined,” the students answered the challenge to create a visual interpretation of an inspiring quote. The three selected students chose the following:
• “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” – Frederick Douglass
• “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw
• “When the world says, ‘Give up,’ hope whispers, ‘Try one more time.’ ” – Unknown
The students were also required to present the design proposal before a panel of judges – including two community members, along with UHS faculty and administration – to win the opportunity to bring their design to reality.
Financial support was provided through a generous donation from Lowes Home Improvement in Mount Dora.
