Science and engineering fair winners prepare for state competition

Lake County students recently showed off their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) capabilities at the Lake County Regional Science and Engineering Fair held at The Wesley Center in Clermont.

Congratulations to Ashlee Ellis from Umatilla Middle School, Best of Show winner for the junior division, and to Rishi Basdeo from East Ridge High School, Best of Show winner for the senior division. They both were awarded a Best of Show trophy and $250.

The high-school and middle-school winners of the 2016 Lake Regional Science and Engineering Fair that will move on to the 61st Annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida on March 29 – March 31, 2016 in Lakeland are:

Twenty-five volunteers judged the 133 projects from students representing 11 middle schools and five high schools in Lake County. The community came out to support Lake County students for the awards ceremony with over 250 people attending. Lake County Science Fair had $2,000 donated from businesses, organizations, and individuals to be given as cash awards to the students.
