Take Stock in Children of Lake and Sumter Counties students earn scholarship upgrade
LEESBURG, FL (March
15, 2016) – Take Stock in
Children of Lake and Sumter Counties awarded a scholarship upgrade to 5 of
their top students in the class of 2017. The students, along with their parents
and mentors, were presented their awards at the Sumter County School District
Board meeting on February 16th and the Lake County School District
Board meeting on March 14th.
“The upgrade is from a 2 Year Florida College Plan to a 2+2 Florida
College Plan. The upgrade adds two years of tuition at a State University in
addition to 2 Years tuition at a Florida College that were previously awarded
to the students” said Carman Cullen-Batt, Executive Director.
Grade point average, behavior, attendance and community service hours
served as the criteria for choosing the top 5 winners. Four of the winners
attend a public high school in Lake County and one winner attends a public high
school in Sumter County.
Stock in Children, a program of the Educational Foundation, identifies
financially at-risk students in the eighth grade, provides them with a mentor
and an advocate and then rewards them at high school graduation with a college
money raised for scholarships are matched 100 percent and purchased through the
Florida Pre Paid Foundation.
