Juice Jog 5K proceeds to benefit Groveland Elementary

Groveland has decided to donate all proceeds from the Juice Jog 5k in November to Groveland Elementary School’s “Recess Fun for Everyone” project. The goal is to provide items such as soccer balls, footballs, cones, jump ropes, croquet sets, flying discs and scooters for Groveland Elementary students to use during recess. “Since we lack extensive playground equipment, our children lack physical activity during recess, [and] they have expressed the need for more options during free recess time,” reads a description of the project that was posted on DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization that hosts a crowdsourcing web site that accepts financial donations for public school projects. “The City, especially the Parks & Recreation Department, is aware of the playground situation at Groveland Elementary School, and we are committed to do what we can in order to help the students achieve 60 minutes of physical activity daily,” the city’s Parks & Recreation Manager Rebekah Morgan wrote to teacher Kayla Coxe, who submitted the project to DonorsChoose. “Should we exceed the funding amount for this project, and I hope that we do, we will either fund another project or donate the money to the school to help out with the playground situation.” The city is seeking sponsors for the 5k, which is planned for 8 a.m. on Nov. 5 at Lake David Park. Sponsorship levels range from $250, which includes a logo on the banner and T-shirt along with one entry in the 5k, to $2,500, which includes a logo on the banner, advertisements and T-shirt along with a booth at the start/finish and five entries in the 5k.

For more information about sponsorship, contact Rebekah Morgan at 352-429-0227 Ext. 16 or Deadline for sponsorships is Oct. 7.

Registration details will be announced at a later date.
