Mount Dora High School pilots new partnership offering Lake-Sumter State College dual enrollment courses on high school campus

Mount Dora High School is excited to announce a partnership with Lake Sumter State College. Starting in August, Mount Dora students were given the opportunity to take dual-enrollment courses on the high school campus. The first two classes offered are ENC 1101 (College Composition I) and SLS 1501 (Foundations of Success Seminar). College Composition II, Intermediate Algebra and Introduction to Humanities will be offered on campus in the spring.
Through dual enrollment, students earn both high school and college credit. The courses are taught on the MDHS campus by MDHS teachers who are also approved as adjunct professors for LSSC. The courses are free to MDHS students and meet during the school day. Students do not have to travel to the college campus. This has been a win for students, MDHS, and LSSC.
Any MDHS student interested in taking dual-enrollment classes on the high school’s campus should call 352-383-2177 and ask to speak to a guidance counselor or Assistant Principal Marlene Straughan. As with any LSSC course, certain criteria such as GPA and test scores must be met for enrollment.
