SEIU, School Board reach agreement on 2016-17 contract

TAVARES -- After seven months of discussing possible salary increases and health insurance plans, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) on Tuesday agreed to a proposal from the Lake County School Board that includes a one salary step increase (an average of 3.5%), effective July 1, 2016, for eligible employees who are at less than Step 18. Employees on Step 18 would receive a 3% one-time bonus.

Additionally, pay grade adjustments would be made for several positions, moving them up on the scale and providing for a higher rate of pay.
The proposal also establishes Florida Blue Options Plan 3559 as the Base Employee Health Insurance Plan, effective Nov. 16, 2016, with the board paying an amount equal to 95% of the base plan. This contribution will be applied to any district approved health plan the employee chooses for employee-only coverage.
The SEIU, which represents bus drivers, custodians, clerical workers and other service employees, will schedule a ratification vote for all employees in the bargaining unit. Once the contract is ratified, it will go to the School Board for final approval.
