TAVARES โ€“ Lake County Schools has earned an A for the 2025-26 school year, the Florida Department of Education announced this morning. It is the first consecutive A-rating in the districtโ€™s history.

The data shows that 11 traditional public schools in Lake earned an A, as well. Thatโ€™s four more than the previous year. Additionally, 80 percent of middle schools and 87 percent of high schools earned an A or B.

No schools in Lake County were graded D or F.

โ€œToday, we proudly celebrate another historic milestone for Lake County Schools,โ€ Superintendent Diane Kornegay said. โ€œEarning our district's first-ever back-to-back 'A' district rating is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of our continued commitment to academic excellence for every student. This achievement belongs to our outstanding teachers, dedicated support staff, exceptional school and district leaders, supportive families, a committed community, and, most importantly, our amazing students. Together, they have demonstrated that when we remain focused on high expectations and student success, remarkable things happen. I am grateful and incredibly proud.โ€

The newly announced A-rated district-operated schools are as follows:

  • Grassy Lake Elementary, Lost Lake Elementary, Pine Ridge Elementary, Sorrento Elementary, Windy Hill Middle, and Umatilla High all increased from a B in 2024-25 to an A in 2025-26.

  • Treadway Elementary and East Ridge High maintained an A from 2024-25 through 2025-26.

  • Mount Dora High is celebrating its third consecutive A rating.

  • East Ridge Middle has been an A-rated school since 2017, and Cypress Ridge Elementary since 2018.

Another Lake school success story is Carver Middle School, which moved up from a C to a B this year, its highest grade in 15 years.

The Florida Department of Education calculates school and district grades based on math, science, reading, and social studies assessment scores, along with student achievement, learning gains, and graduation rates.

The district is proud to have more A and B schools than ever before, along with the highest graduation rate in district history at 96 percent.
