Our young leaders continue to go above and beyond in representing the TRU-Leaders Academy and upholding its principles. Culminating a set of leader-building sessions in our leadership class, “Showing Compassion and Engaging with Empathy”, we shared with them the events of the historic tragedy of September 11, 2001 and how some people are still suffering even today because of it. They expressed that they wanted to show their great respect for all of the American citizens and first responders that we lost during that horrific period, so we invited their parents to share stories with the group of where they were on that day and how it affected their lives and the lives of loved ones. They were blown away when one parent shared that he was actually sitting in a classroom at Gray Middle when it happened.
Our leaders then dedicated themselves to learning about, and showing empathy, respect, and reverence for those we lost and those who sacrificed. They then woke up before dawn on this past Saturday so we could be on the road by 5:00 am to travel to Altamonte Springs and carry out what we dubbed, our “TRU-Leaders Resilience Run” in support of the 2024 Tunnels to Towers 9/11 Memorial 5k Event. They showed true grit, toughness, resilience, and respect as they walked and ran for over three miles alongside Firefighters, Police Officers, Military personnel, and other citizens! It was truly amazing to see!
Thank you, Mr. Bonner, for your leadership!
