February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Teen Dating Violence is a pattern of emotional, verbal, sexual, or physical abuse used by one person in a current or past dating relationship to exert power and control over another when one or both of the partners is a teenager. Abuse may include insults, coercion, social sabotage, sexual harassment, stalking, threats and/or acts of physical or sexual abuse. This month, we are bringing awareness to this issue, educating students about it, and helping them understand how to prevent it. Wednesday, Feb. 11, is Wear Orange Day. It's "Celebrate Literacy Week!" in Florida, and this year’s statewide theme, “Read, White and Blue: Celebrating 250 Chapters of America,” came to life today at Seminole Springs Elementary School! School leaders were honored to welcome special guest readers —including Superintendent Diane Kornegay — who shared "America: The Patriotic Primer" with classrooms across campus. Students loved exploring the people, places, and ideals that have shaped our nation. Immediately after the readings, the school proudly held a Liberty Tree Ceremony in partnership with the Lake County Historical Society and the Lake County Board of County Commissioners. Thanks to a generous donation from Cherry Lake Tree Farm, a new Liberty Tree now stands on the campus as a living symbol of freedom, history, and learning for generations to come. #LiteracyWeek #LearningInLake #LibertyTree
